Feedback Survey

On June 22, 2022, we conducted a workshop at the Orthopedic Hospital Speising. This workshop focused on the color, shape, comprehensibility, and assignability of the first feedback presentations. We were able to survey a total of 32 participants. The participants came from the following groups: doctors, physiotherapists, and patients. During the survey, we showed the participants six split-screen videos. Each consisted of an exercise video on the left side and a video of the displayed feedback on movement execution on the right side.

Thanks to this workshop, our understanding of which feedback forms can support patients in their rehabilitation and which aspects are perceived as disturbing has grown. Moreover, we received important input from doctors and therapists on what points a successful feedback must contain for them. General conclusions that can be drawn from this survey include:

  • Uniform color design of the feedback across all parts of the exercise
  • Uniform design whether “2D” or “3D” representation and no switching between parts of the exercise
  • No background or a uniform background
  • Display anatomical references to increase assignability

A detailed presentation of the results will follow in a peer-reviewed journal next year. Furthermore, the insights from this workshop will be incorporated into the further development of feedback presentations. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all participants and especially to the head of physiotherapy at the Orthopedic Hospital Speising, Thomas Berger, for organizing and conducting the workshop.
